THE IDA B WELLS SNOWBOARDING MISSION

 

To create and foster community of passionate snowboarders. Coaches and volunteers work together to to provide a safe and fun snowboarding experience. Any level snowboarder can join the team. Teams from different schools practice together and compete against one another, creating the opportunity to meet new friends. Competing is not required, but encouraged through coach instruction + supportive team environment.

PRACTICES

9-10 Coached practices on Wednesdays after school at Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort 5:00-9:00pm. Bus provided if Covid-19 Pandemic regulations allow for safe student bus transportation. Bus + chaperones leave Ida B Wells High School at 3pm and return to IBW at 11 pm. Parent volunteers and sponsors will provide snacks and water on the bus. Pizza will be provided on the ride to Mt Hood Meadows. Each Wednesday we rely on 2 parent chaperones to help ensure our riders are staying safe and in compliance with covid-19 safety procedures. Chaperones get a free lift ticket for the night.

COACHING

Coaches will lead groups of 5-7 riders to practice multiple disciplines: Free-ride (Natural Terrain), Slopestyle (Jumps+Rails+Park), Banked Slalom (Timed Race), Half Pipe and Boarder Cross. Riders are encouraged to take advantage of our talented coaches to advance existing skills, get ready for the x-games, or free-ride in groups with friends. Snow conditions and competition schedule dictate the plans for each practice.

COMPETITIONS

Competitions are run and insured by Oregon Interscholastic Snowboard Association (OISA) and the Metro Snowboarding League. Riders compete in: Banked Slalom (Race), Boarder Cross (Race), Slopestyle (Park) and Half Pipe to qualify for State Final Championship Competition in one or all disciplines. Metro League Competitions are held on 6 weekend days at Mt. Hood Meadows from January - March. State Championship convenes late-march on 5 consecutive days. Transportation to competitions and state housing will be arranged via private carpools. COST

Team Fee: $750

Includes: OISA Fee, METRO League Fee, Insurance, Snowboard Coaching, 1 Team Hoodie,
Metro League Fee, State Championship Competition Fees and Bibs,
Transportation to/from Practice, Dinner on the bus ride to the mountain, Rail Jam and Skate Night.

   Club Fee: $630

Includes: Insurance, 1 Club Hoodie, Transportation to/from Practice, Dinner on the bus ride to the

 Scholarships will be available from sponsors, booster club and private donations.

 

COVID-19 - Vaccination Required For Competing Team Riders per OISA rules.

If student bus Transportation is not deemed safe in January 2022, when the season begins, we

will refund the bus portion of your fee and arrange private carpools to practice.

If Mt.Hood Meadows, OISA, or Metro League have to cancel competitions due to pandemic

gathering restrictions, we will refund the competition portion of your

fee and run practices only.
