OUR MISSION

"Access For All"

To create and foster a community of passionate snowboarders. Coaches and volunteers work together to to provide a safe and fun snowboarding and ski experience for all backgrounds regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual identity or financial ability. Any level snowboarder can join the IBW Snowboarding Team. Experience and skill level dictates whether a student is offered a JV or Varsity spot. Teams from different schools practice together and compete against one another, creating the opportunity to meet new friends and ride with old ones. Skiers must be at an intermediate level as coaching is not provided at the club level.

PRACTICES

8-10 coached practices on Wednesdays (Varsity) and Thursdays (JV/Ski), resort conditions permitting, after school at Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort 5:00pm-9:00pm. Bus leaves Ida B Wells High School by 2:15 pm and returns at 11:15 pm. Parent volunteers and sponsors will provide snacks and drinks on the bus. Hot food will be provided on the ride to Mt Hood Meadows.

SNOWBOARD TEAM COACHING

Coaches will lead groups of 7-11  riders to practice multiple disciplines: Free-ride (Natural Terrain), Slopestyle (Jumps+Rails+Park), Banked Slalom (Timed Race), Half Pipe and Boarder Cross (4 riders on the Banked Slalom course). Riders are encouraged to take advantage of our talented coaches to advance existing skills and get ready for their future X-game careers. Snow conditions and competition schedule dictate the plans for each practice. Riders get 45-60 minutes of free-ride time to warm up before coaching begins. All Varsity riders must compete in at least one event (usually Banked Slalom). JV riders do not compete but they do train with the same coaches as the Varsity team and ride with Varsity Team Captains.

SNOWBOARD TEAM COMPETITIONS

Competitions are run and insured by Oregon Interscholastic Snowboard Association (OISA) and the Metro Snowboarding League. Riders compete in: Banked Slalom (Race), Boarder Cross (Race), Slopestyle (Park) and Half Pipe to qualify for the OISA State Final Championship competitions in one or multiple events. Metro League Competitions are held on 7 weekend days at Mt. Hood Meadows from January - March. State Championship convenes in March on 5 consecutive days.
